Tyler on Training: Steps

This week, Tyler talks about putting together the last few weeks into steps. Tyler shows the steps from standing and from his carry position, which is at the 9 o’clock position. The first couple of steps are the most important, which is moving the shirt or clothing out of the way in order to give you a clean, clear draw, without getting hung up on anything. So, the steps that Tyler uses are as follows:

This week, Tyler talks about putting together the last few weeks into steps. Tyler shows the steps from standing and from his carry position, which is at the 9 o’clock position. The first couple of steps are the most important, which is moving the shirt or clothing out of the way in order to give you a clean, clear draw, without getting hung up on anything. So, the steps that Tyler uses are as follows:

  • Step one is grabbing the shirt, jacket or other clothing that is concealing your firearm
    Step two is pulling the clothing away to make the firearm clear in order to grab
    Step 3 is getting a good grip on the firearm, which Tyler cants, or leans his body in order to do so
    Step 4 is drawing the firearm
  • One thing that he warns about, is focusing on too many steps once the gun is drawn, or the presentation of the firearm and angles. Again, in reality, most self defense shootings happen really fast, and they’re probably going to be over before you can really comprehend what just happened. Adding steps beyond drawing your firearm isn’t important, what is important is the sequence that needs to happen to make the draw successful. When you are presented with a threat, your firearm will follow your eyes and present on the threat.
