Magazine Capacity Limitations

Alabama: No restrictions
Alaska: No restrictions
Arizona: No restrictions
Arkansas: No restrictions
California: Magazines with capacity over 10 may not be imported/brought into the state
Colorado: Citizens may not acquire a magazine that holds more than 15 rounds. There is nothing illegal about possession or use of any magazine of any size by residents or non-residents.
Connecticut: Magazines with capacity over 10 may not be brought into Connecticut except by a FFL. Existing magazines with capacity greater than 10 rounds are legal if registered with the state police before Jan 1st 2014.
Delaware: As of August 29, 2022, Delaware law limits the capacity of firearm magazines to 17 rounds. This law also bans the manufacture, sale, purchase, receipt, transfer, and possession of large capacity magazines (LCMs).
District of Columbia: Magazines limited to 10 rounds. Also note: A person issued a concealed carry license by the Chief, while carrying the pistol, shall not
carry more ammunition than is required to fully load the pistol twice, and in no event shall
that amount be greater than twenty (20) rounds of ammunition.
Florida: No restrictions
Georgia: No restrictions
Hawaii: Handgun magazines with capacity greater than 10 rounds are not lawful
Idaho: No restrictions
Illinois: Unlawful for any person within the state to knowingly manufacture, deliver, sell, purchase or cause to be manufactured, delivered, sold, or purchased any magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds for long guns and more than 15 rounds for handguns. Does not apply to possession of magazines lawfully possessed before the new law went into effect so long as they are only possessed on private property with permission of the property owner, on the premise of a licensed firearms dealer/gunsmith, at a firing range or shooting competition venue, or while traveling to or from these locations provided it is stored unloaded and enclosed in a container.
Indiana: No restrictions
Iowa: No restrictions
Kansas: No restrictions
Kentucky: No restrictions
Louisiana: No restrictions
Maine: No restrictions
Maryland: The sale or acquisition of magazines with capacity greater than 10 is not lawful.
Massachusetts: The sale, transfer, or new acquisition of magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds is unlawful.
Michigan: No restrictions
Minnesota: No restrictions
Mississippi: No restrictions
Missouri: No restrictions
Montana: No restrictions
Nebraska: No restrictions
Nevada: No restrictions
New Hampshire: No restrictions
New Jersey: Magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds are illegal
New Mexico: No restrictions
New York: Magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds are illegal.
North Carolina: No restrictions
North Dakota: No restrictions
Ohio: No restrictions
Oklahoma: No restrictions
Oregon: No state restrictions
Pennsylvania: No restrictions
Rhode Island: Magazines of a capacity of more than 10 are illegal effective June 20th, 2022. Within 180 days of that date existing magazines of 11+ capacity must be modified, surrendered, or transferred out of state.
South Carolina: No restrictions
South Dakota: No restrictions
Tennessee: No restrictions
Texas: No restrictions
Utah: No restrictions
Vermont: A person shall not manufacture, possess, transfer, offer for sale purchase, or receive, or import into this
State a large capacity ammunition feeding device. This includes a magazine, belt, drum,
feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept: more than 10 rounds of ammunition for a long gun; or more than 15 rounds of ammunition for a hand gun. Some exceptions apply.
Virginia: No restrictions
Washington: Magazines with the capacity of MORE than 10 rounds are illegal to buy, sell, import, manufacture, or distribute after July 1st, 2022.
West Virginia: No restrictions
Wisconsin: No restrictions
Wyoming: No restrictions
