In Self Defense: The Maddox Case- Is $125,000 Enough For A Self Defense Case?
Tart Thomas, one of the attorneys for Stephen Maddox, talks about the money that was spent on the Maddox case. Thomas explains that $300,000 was spent on the defense of Stephen, and without those resources, there could have been a very different outcome. “We needed every penny of it.” Tartt explains. “$125,000, while it is a lot of money, that is going to be used up quickly in a self defense case.”
The attorneys fees are just a part of that expense. To properly defend a self defense case, you are going to need investigators to start chasing down leads, getting statements and finding witnesses. You will need experts in various fields to examine the case, and uncover the truth in the case, often that is missed or overlooked by the police. There can be depositions in the case, trial exhibits, you may need jury consultants or other consultants.
