Crime And Place

Crime and Place is a great new app that is included with our Ultimate Plan.  It is a useful tool for those who carry, and can help them determine historical crime statistics for an area.

A few months ago, we created a citizen’s use of force continuum based on our experience with the law enforcement use of force continuum.  The base layer that the continuum resides on is preparation and avoidance.  Preparation is a constant state of awareness of your surroundings, both present and future, and planning your tasks.  Avoidance is using that preparation to avoid places that have higher safety risks.  So, if you know that you will be working or traveling in an area that has a high violent crime rate, including homicides, carjackings, shootings,  gang violence, etc., you might want to make sure that you take proper precautions.   Make sure that you have a full tank of gas, and pack some snacks and water bottles.  

Crime and Place is a great tool to help you with this preparation and avoidance, as you can pull up any location and immediatley, visually, see the crime rates.  You can also use it while you are driving to see what’s ahead, and make appropriate decisions.  You can even choose to get notifications of high crime areas as you travel. 

The app can also help with the first level of the use of force continuum, which is situational awareness.   You should always practice good situational awareness, but if you know that you are in a high crime area, then your situational awareness should be heightened.  You should start to pay more attention to location and direction details, as well as direct surroundings and other people.  

Whether your traveling for work, with the family, or just in your daily work, Crime and Place is a great tool for those who carry in self defense.
