Tyler Grey answers the question “How can I be best prepared for a potential self defense situation?”  Everything is 20/20 in hindsight.  There are 3 different aspects that Tyler talks about in this video:  1- Mental preparation, 2- physical preparation, and 3- preparation for the aftermath.

For the mental aspect: If you are carrying concealed, you need to be able to accept the fact that you might have to use it someday, and in using it, you might have to take a life.  Taking a life is not a natural thing, and those who have been put in that situation will tell you, it’s not something that just happens  to you and you “move on”.  Some people deal with it better than others but it something that will live with you forever.

For the physical aspect: The physical preparation is more obvious, those are the hard skills, the shooting, firearms safety, drawing from a holster, etc.

For the aftermath aspect: The preparation for the aftermath is two fold.  It includes what you will be going through personally, which can be a wide range of things, along with the legal aspect.   There are great resources on this site, and for CCW Safe members, such as “The Aftermath of a Shooting” video series, and “The Next Fight” video series with Don West.

So, to sum it up, the best way to be prepared for a self defense shooting situation, is to have good training in the mental and physical aspects, and good protection and awareness for the aftermath.
