Concealed Carry 101- Part 3: Firearms Selection
Welcome back to the third week in the Concealed Carry 101 video series. This week we are talking with Brad Carroll, General Manager for Wilshire Gun in Oklahoma City. If you are new to concealed carry, and especially new to firearms, then you are going to need some guidance on a handgun that fits you well. This is based on what your reasoning is for getting a permit- concealed carry vs. home defense, size and strength of your hand, and more. At Wilshire Gun they have a program called the Wilshire Gun Fitting. This idea is not new, and many gun ranges, or gun outlets have similar programs. In these programs, you can go in and “try out” several different firearms. In most places, they will talk to you, get an idea of what you are interested in, and hand pick several guns for you to try. Most programs start with a classroom introduction, going over the function of the gun and you will get to handle the gun to see how each operate. After that, they will take you on the range and let you shoot each one, better determining which gun is right for you.

A lot of times we will have someone come in and leave with something totally different than what they had in mind. Especially women, they are often told by someone that they should just get a revolver, and they come in and go through a gun fitting, and end up leaving with a Sig or Glock.
Gun fitting programs are a great way to learn about new handguns, and experience which one is right for you. If you are in the hunt for a new gun, or something that might be good for concealed carry, call Wilshire Gun, or a gun range local to you and inquire about their programs.
